Privacy and cookies
The short version
Sauna Finder has no accounts. We only count visits if you say yes to cookies. The only personal details we receive are what you choose to type into one of our two forms (below). We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
Analytics cookies (only with your permission)
If you click “Accept” on the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to count which pages are visited and how often people click a sauna’s Book button. Google Analytics sets cookies (named_ga) that last up to two years. Google processes this data for us; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you click “Reject”, Google Analytics isn’t loaded at all. You can change your mind any time using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the page.
Videos
Some paid listings include a video from YouTube or Instagram. Nothing is loaded from them until you tap “Play video”; after that, YouTube or Instagram may set cookies under their own policies.
The map, photos and reviews
The map, and the photos, ratings and reviews shown for each sauna, come from Google Maps. To show them, Google receives your IP address and what you’re viewing. We don’t keep any of this. See Google’s privacy policy.
Searching by postcode or town
If you search for a postcode or a town, your browser looks up where it is using postcodes.io, a free service built on official UK postcode data. Only what you typed is sent. We don’t keep it.
“Near me”
Your location is only used if you tap “Near me” and allow it. It stays in your browser to sort saunas by distance. It isn’t sent to us or saved.
Booking
Book, Private hire and other buttons take you to each sauna’s own website. We add a tag to the link so the sauna can see the visit came from Sauna Finder. Anything you book is between you and the sauna, under their privacy policy.
If you claim or correct a listing
Venue owners and staff can use “Claim or correct this listing”. We receive your name, role, email address, phone number (if you give it) and your message. We use them only to check and update the listing and to contact you about it, which you agree to when you send the form.
Submissions are stored in a private Google Sheet that only Sauna Finder can access (Google stores it for us under its own privacy terms), and we email ourselves a copy. We keep them while the listing is live, and delete them when asked. [DRAFT: confirm how long you keep these.]
Spam protection on our forms
When you open one of our forms, we load Google reCAPTCHA to check the form is being filled in by a person rather than a spam program. It doesn’t load on any other page. To do this, Google receives information about your device and how you use the form, and may set cookies. See Google’s privacy policy and terms.
If you sign up for a venue's emails
Some paid listings have a “Get updates” form. If you use it, we receive your email address and first name (if you give it) and pass them to that venue only, so it can send you news and offers. We do this only because you tick the box asking us to. That venue then looks after your details under its own privacy policy, and you can unsubscribe from its emails at any time.
We keep a record of your sign-up in a private Google Sheet so we can show you agreed, and delete it on request. To change your mind before the venue has your details, contact us below. [DRAFT: confirm how and how often sign-ups are sent to venues, and how long the record is kept.]
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the details we hold about you, or object to how we use them, by contacting us below. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
